Summer is almost here, and your garden is ready to show off. As the days get longer and the sun gets stronger, it’s the perfect time to give your planters a little extra TLC.

Whether you're refreshing your front porch with bold blooms or revamping your backyard oasis, we've got you covered!

1. Refresh the Soil

Just like your plants, soil gets tired. If your planter has old or compacted soil from last season, now’s the time to replace or rejuvenate it. Mix in fresh potting soil, compost, or a slow-release fertilizer to create a nutrient-rich base. Tusco’s durable, lightweight planters, like the Tall Planter, make it easy to empty, clean, and refill, even when you’re working with larger sizes.

2. Check Drainage

Healthy roots need air as much as they need water. Before planting, check that your containers have proper drainage holes. All Tusco planters are designed with optimal drainage in mind, but if you've added a liner or tray, make sure it isn’t blocking water flow.

3. Clean and Inspect

Give your planters a quick rinse and inspect for any cracks or wear. Wipe down the exterior to remove any lingering dirt, mold, or debris.

4.Add Mulch and Moisture Control

Summer heat can dry out containers fast. After planting, top your soil with a thin layer of mulch to help retain moisture and prevent weeds. Water early in the day, and adjust frequency depending on heat and rainfall.

5. Design with the Season in Mind

Select plant and color combinations that align with your summer aesthetic. Bold reds, oranges, and yellows make a strong statement in neutral planters, while softer hues like white, lavender, and green create a more calming effect.

Recommended combinations:

  • Full sun: Petunias, geraniums, marigolds

  • Shade: Impatiens, coleus, begonias

  • Herbs: Basil, thyme, mint, rosemary

These pair well with versatile container styles and can be rotated throughout the season for continuous impact.
